Reports Again Link Cristiano Ronaldo with Manchester United Return

>

Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United for Real Madrid almost four years ago. Speculation has been that this season will not only be Ronaldo’s last in Madrid (who has two years left on his deal), but boss Jose Mourinho’s as well.

PSG has been most commonly linked with a move for Ronaldo, but a recent report says that Manchester United mean business and are dedicated to getting their former Portuguese winger back to Old Trafford.

“United are not happy now PSG have made their move with a substantial offer (via ESPN),” the United source was quoted as saying.. “They will not give up, however, and have told Ronaldo’s agent of their intent.”

Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United said their summer transfer plans aren’t tied to just one man though.

“Hopefully the players we bring into the club in the next year or so will be of the quality we need,” Ferguson said. “We’re competitive in the market - we’re not Chelsea or Manchester City in terms of money but we’re competitive.”

“We’ve been doing a bit of work on that over the last three or four months, targeting who the players are that we feel could enhance us, make us better or help us maintain the level we’re at,” he finished.

Ferguson also explained the composition of his team in terms of the ages of his most important players.

“You have to look at the structure of the club at present, in terms of the number of first-team players we have at 23 or under,” Ferguson said in his column for Inside United.

“Older players like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand may be coming towards the end of their careers, but these younger players are the foundation for the next five or six years, irrespective of the players breaking through, like Adnan Januzaj, the Belgian boy, who’s really looking very good,” he said.

Another player often linked with United is Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski, but the Polish hit-man’s agent recently indicated that a move for his client might not be as imminent as first thought.

“I can tell you only one thing – Robert is interested in the future coming to the Premier League. The Premier League is very interesting for Robert,” Lewandowski’s agent Malik Barthel said. “How long is the future, I cannot say to you. I think this summer is not the future.”

Manchester United strengthens every summer, and even winning the title as early as they have this year won’t change that approach. But with the amount of conjecture being simply that, everybody will just have to wait and see where Ronaldo ends up.
