Real Madrid vs. Atletico Madrid: Copa Del Rey Preview

The 2013 Copa del Rey Final has an all-Madrid flavor to it this year as Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will square off at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid.

Both clubs have nothing left to play for with their league finishes set in stone with Real in second and Atletico in third in La Liga this season behind champions Barcelona.

Both clubs also failed to succeed on the continental level with Real Madrid falling in the UEFA Champions League semifinals to Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid being downed in the UEFA Europa League by Rubin Kazan in the round of 32.

The Copa del Rey Final will also give Atletico a chance to enact revenge on their crosstown rival, who have beaten them twice in league play this season.

It will be a tough task for Atletico to pull off the upset but the UEFA Super Cup champions do have plenty of talent with the likes of Radamel Falcao, Diego Costa and Thibaut Courtois expected to be in the starting 11.

While Atletico have plenty of strong players on the pitch, Real have the clear advantage in the personnel department with Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos and many others roaming the pitch.

If this season’s matches between the two Madrid rivals have taught us anything , it is that the two clubs will play a close affair at the Bernabeu.

The two clubs last met on April 27 at the Vicente Calderon with Los Blancos coming out on top with a 2-1 victory, they won 2-0 at the Bernabeu back on December 1.

Regardless of what the final result on Friday is, the Copa del Rey Final should be a cracking affair on the legendary pitch of the Bernabeu.
