Robert Lewandowski’s future still remains up in the air, with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund denying reports that a deal has been completed for the striker’s signature. The 24 year old has long been linked with a move to the German powerhouse, and appears set to move on from his current club, Borussia Dortmund, in the summer transfer window.

Reports surfaced this week that Lewandowski and Dortmund had agreed on a deal with Bayern Munich to send the striker to the Bundesliga leaders in the summer, but both Dortmund and Bayern management have quickly dismissed the claim. The deal, thought to be worth €25 million, was reportedly completed by a middleman between the clubs.

However, Dortmund’s general manager, Michael Zorc, has denied such a deal. Zorc told Kicker Online, “this offer does not exist. It is pure nonsense”. Bayern have also squashed the rumor by issuing a press release stating: “Contrary to the reports, FC Bayern has no contract with Robert Lewandowski”.

These rumors follow reports claiming that the Polish striker is certain to leave Dortmund this summer. Lewandowski’s agent, Maik Barthel, event went so far as to say that a deal has been completed for his client’s signature. Barthel was quoted as saying:

“We have reached an agreement with a club and intend [him] to move this summer. There is a very interesting offer for Robert which fulfills entirely the demands set by Dortmund and also the demands of Robert. Dortmund have assured us that Robert can move at the end of the season under these conditions. We stick to agreements and now it’s up to the clubs to sort things out.”

While it remains uncertain which club made the bid, or if a bid was actually made, Barthel’s words will certainly have many top clubs on red alert. Lewandowski has been linked with a number of the world’s best teams, and the apparent availability of the striker could have these clubs ready to open up their checkbooks.

One team that appears certain to make a bid for Lewandowski is Manchester United. The Red Devils have apparently had their eye on the Poland international for months now, and  Sir Alex is said to have sent scouts to watch the striker in his four-goal outburst against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The Daily Mail is reporting that United are set to make a £30 million bid for the Bundesliga’s leading goal scorer, but the source believes that even that staggering fee may not be enough to take Dortmund’s prized asset. If United were to be successful in acquiring Lewandowski, it would seem certain that Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez’s career at Old Trafford would come to an end.

With Lewandowski’s future apparently away from Borussia Dortmund, a bidding war may take place in the summer for the striker’s signature, and Bayern Munich and Manchester United look set to lead the race. Either would seem a realistic destination for the prolific goal scorer, as both have already won their respective leagues this season.
