Real Madrid Will Fight to Keep Portuguese Star Ronaldo

Even though it may not be directly attributed towards the poor season, the speculation surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Real Madrid can be considered as one of the reasons. Ever since the Portuguese star said that he was sad at the Spanish club, he has been linked with the likes of Manchester City and Paris St Germain. Most recently, he has been linked with a move to Chelsea, which will reunite him with José Mourinho.

Mourinho has reportedly made Ronaldo as his number one target once he takes over at Chelsea in the summer. However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez appears extremely reluctant to lose his star signing. He has stated that the club is willing to make Ronaldo as the best-paid player in the world. It remains to be seen if this would persuade the 27-year-old to stay at the club.

According to Sky Sports, Perez has said that Ronaldo is easily the best player in the world and he deserves a salary to match the status. It is believed that the salary is not the problem for Ronaldo. He is of the opinion that the club did not support him enough in a bid to win the FIFA Ballon d’Or award. Ronaldo has been consistently defeated by Lionel Messi for the last four years. Ronaldo has not won this award since moving to Real Madrid in an £80 million deal in 2009.

Kaka was been the main target for Perez, while it is believed that it was former Real Madrid president Calderon’s deal that brought Ronaldo to the Santiago Bernabeu. Despite this, Perez is unlikely to let Ronaldo leave easily.

Perez has also said that the club did not continuing their pursuit of Neymar because the Brazilian would have cost the club in excess of £100 million. Real Madrid have seen Neymar snatched up by archrivals Barcelona for an undisclosed fee.
