According to an announcement on Liverpool’s official website captain Steven Gerrard is going to miss the remainder of the season.

Reports from the Red’s camp confirm that the soon to be 31-year-old midfielder has had a nagging shoulder injury for some time that has reached the point of no return.

Gerrard is scheduled to have surgery later this week and he will then be out for the final two matches of the club’s current campaign.

However, he is scheduled to be fit and ready for the club’s pre-season tour when it kicks off following the summer off season.

For once it appears to be something not related to the captains nagging leg injuries from the past several seasons. This has certainly been one of the veteran’s best seasons for several years and his healthiest by far.

It will be interesting to see now what becomes of the club over the summer as they are now certain to fail to achieve their goal of European qualification under Brendan Rodgers.

A healthy Steven Gerrard is certain to be once again key next season for the club but with Jamie Carragher already known as a summer casualty to the side, just what will become of the side over the next three months?
