Tottenham Hotspur Preparing to Spend Big on Porto’s Jackson Martinez

spurs shirtTottenham Hotspur are looking for a new striker to lead them into Champions League spots next season. The London-based club were close to making it into the big dance again this term, however, local rivals Arsenal bested them by one point to take fourth place and the final qualifying position.

Last season, Welsh winger Gareth Bale was the team’s hero and leading scorer. But, this transfer window manager Andre Villas-Boas will be looking to bring some talented strikers to help take some of the weight off Bale.

According to a report in the IBT, Tottenham are getting ready to break the bank and snatch Jackson Martinez from Porto. The Colombian striker has a long list of admirers all around Europe, however, it will take a huge bid to separate him from Porto. The Portuguese club has already lost two important players earlier this summer, with James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho securing deals that sent them to Ligue 1. AS Monaco paid an astounding £60 million for the duo as part of a rebuilding project that has also seen players like Radamel Falcao and Ricardo Carvalho join the side.

Martinez, who just finished an impressive season scoring 34 goals in 39 games, has a release clause of £34 million — an amount that could possibly increase after this season. The Colombian international arrived from Jaguares de Chiapas in Mexico last summer for a mere £7 million.

In addition to Martinez, Villas-Boas is also pursuing another attacking target in Christian Benteke. The Aston Villa striker has just finished an impressive debut season in England, not only helping the team survive relegation, but scoring 19 goals while at it. The 22-year-old striker is being chased by many team around Europe, including Atletico Madrid who just lost Falcao to Monaco. Atletico have reportedly told Villa they are ready to spend £25 million on Benteke.

Tottenham could decide to sweeten the deal with Villa and are willing to make a player swap and add cash to the deal. The player that Spurs are willing to let go of is none other than Jermain Defoe. The veteran England international scored 11 goals in the Premier League last season.

Hahahaha your so far behind the times, the only reason I have come to read this is because I can leave this comment. You really need to check the facts before you print. I thought that was what journalism was all about. Martinez spoke yesterday and said he has no intention of leaving Porto. And also the Chairman said there has not been and contact from Spurs, so I really dont get why your printing this filth
