Sporting Kansas City Aces First Test of Difficult Week
Sporting Kansas City has been one of the premier clubs in Major League Soccer for the past few years but that does not mean that they get preferential treatment when it comes to the schedule.
A perfect example of that comes this week as Sporting were forced to travel to Red Bull Arena on Wednesday and then go across the country to the Home Depot Center to play the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday night in front of a national audience.
With a crucial Eastern Conference match in front of them, Sporting aced their first test of the week in Harrison, New Jersey due to the mighty exploits of Graham Zusi and Aurelien Collin.
In the 13th minute, Zusi delivered Collin with a superb cross from a corner kick and the Frenchman overpowered Jamison Olave in the penalty area to score the only goal of the match.
While Peter Vermes’ club would love to bask in the road victory over the Red Bulls but they have less than 72 hours to prepare for the always difficult Galaxy that are now close to full strength with Landon Donovan back in the side.
What makes Saturday’s venture into the Home Depot Center even more daunting is the fact that the Galaxy are looking to rebound from a difficult loss to FC Dallas last weekend.
While many clubs would stare at a long road trip like this with fear, Sporting Kansas City are well prepared to take this trip by the reigns and earn a full six points from their difficult week.
And one other thing, if Sporting does win their second game of the week in LA, no one will be shocked that they did so.
