Real Madrid Rumors: Jupp Heynckes Could Arrive in Place of Carlo Ancelotti
Current Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes is considering a return to Real Madrid. His agent was quoted as saying on Sunday that he would extend his career as a coach in order to work at the Bernabéu.
As SWOL noted here, Carlo Ancelotti has been favored for a move from PSG to the La Liga’s runners-up. The Italian coach is on the top of Florentino Pérez’s list to replace José Mourinho. But if the deal goes wrong — PSG is reluctant to release him without a compensation — Heynckes would be, according to Marca.com, the next Real Madrid coach. The newspaper says the two-time Champions League champion has already insinuated his arrival, stating “Coming back to Madrid? I’m 68 years-old and that could be enough.”
Last Sunday, Heynckes’ agent made the following statement: “Jupp would love to go back to Real. If Florentino Pérez calls us, we would most likely accept the offer. For the time being, he has only retired from the Bundesliga. It’s not up to Heynckes, it’s up to Florentino Perez.”.
The German coach, who turned 68 years old this month, guided Real Madrid to the 1998 UCL title. His spell with Los Blancos only lasted a year. Heynckes had also coached Athletic Bilbao between 1992-1994 and 2001-2003, with a two year spell at Tenerife in between.
