Mario Balotelli Racially Abused After AC Milan Beat Siena To Secure Champions League Football

AC Milan managed to secure a place in the Champions League after the 2-1 win over Siena during the weekend, but the celebrations were marred because of striker Mario Balotelli being racially abused by Fiorentina fans. Milan destroyed the hopes of Fiorentina returning to the Champions League after a long absence with this victory.

These two teams came into the final weekend in Italian Serie A with an opportunity to make it into the elite European cup competition. Milan were ahead of Fiorentina in the table by two points.

Massimiliano Allegri’s men almost lost their advantage as they were drawing the match 1-1 into the final few minutes. A penalty, which was converted by Mario Balotelli, late in the match gave Milan three points that helped them secure third place. It was a controversial penalty and Fiorentina fans do not take it lightly.

Just as the Milan players started the celebration – along with Balotelli – a large group of Fiorentina fans hurled racist abuse at the former Manchester City striker. The 22-year-old is known for his volatile temperament, and he did not take long to respond.

According to the Daily Mail, Balotelli had to be pulled away from the incident by the police and club officials. He later responded on Twitter by saying that fans should change their attitude in future or they will have to see Milan play with only 10 men on the pitch.

If Balotelli walks away from the match due to racial abuse, then he would be the second Milan player to do so after Kevin Prince Boetang.

This is not the first time Balotelli has been subjected to racial abuse this season. In the match against Roma earlier in the season, the crowd had to be controlled by a brief halt and a plea from the stadium announcer. Balotelli has scored 12 goals in 13 appearances since his return to Italy.
