Robin Van Persie arrived in Manchester last season after having had a stellar campaign with Arsenal but again no silverware to show for it. Despite a slow start, RVP quickly grew into the Red Devils side under Sir Alex Ferguson and would eventually repeat his 2011-12 English Premier League Golden Boot performance as he helped United to the 2012-13 EPL title.

One season with United and he already half the amount of silverware he won his entire eight years in North London with Arsenal. Ferguson had become a mentor to RVP, just as he had to nearly every player that ever came under his watch. From the youth team to the world class talent of the first team, Ferguson was always willing to make sure his players knew he supported and believed in them.

Now the time has come for a new manager to grace the touchline at Old Trafford for the first time in 27-years. Former Everton manager David Moyes was appointed shortly after Ferguson announced his retirement, but despite the change in leadership Van Persie has issued a statement on MUTV that he knows what is expected of any player or team at United:

“It will be a new era and I am looking forward to it. It is part of our job as well. We have to deal with the new situation and how it is.

First we can enjoy last year a little. We have a summer break which we should all take and enjoy.

And then, slowly, after a couple of weeks, we will start to think about next season and, of course, we are looking forward to next season…

But it is going to be a new challenge and everybody knows what our standards are: we want to win the league again and then hopefully add one or two trophies to that.”

United already will have another new face with the arrival of Wilfried Zaha, fresh off helping Crystal Palace to the EPL, and there are certain to be a few more entrances and exit before the end of the summer under Moyes. However, one thing is certain, the standards of the club will not change and Moyes will be expected to deliver his first pieces of silverware sooner than later.
