Reports from the Daily Mirror are claiming that Liverpool are preparing a bid for 21-year-old Greek international defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos of German Bundesliga club Schalke 04.

Rodgers has been looking to add youth and talent to the club, but Papadopoulos has a unique chance to make an immediate impact due to his experience if he indeed puts pen to paper.

With 13 international caps and four goals while having made appearances for the Greeks in the 2012 UEFA European Championships, he also has made 92 appearances for Schalke including time in the Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League and multiple tournaments.

The Reds are expected to face potential competition from Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester City, but upon confirmation that his knee problems are behind him, the club are said to be ready with a formal offer to be submitted by the end of the week.

BBC Sport also claim that Liverpool are set to sign Kolo Toure from Manchester City once the veteran defender’s contract expires at the end of May. The 32-year-old defender is thought to be a great veteran addition to the club’s main corps of Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel and Sebastian Coates with Jamie Carragher having retired.
