Liverpool Transfer News: Can the Reds Count on Rodgers and Suarez for Next Season?

Brendan RodgersUncomfortably sitting in sixth place in the Premier League this season, Liverpool continue on a non-ascertaining road for new silverware to display in the Anfield gallery.

Players and staff members know the pressure and frustration this causes among supporters. Even after the acquisitions of Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho during the winter transfer window, the side maintained a mixed bag of results instead of the steady number of victories that would have elevated the side up the table.

With only four matches remaining — Newcastle United (away), Everton (home), Fulham (away), Queens Park Rangers (home) — the Reds’ Stewart Downing has said that the club need to and should improve for next season.

“Next season is a big test for us. The manager has most of the players that he wants in the squad and that’s when we have to crack on”

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers agreed with his winger, in a repot from the Telegraph, stating, “The creativity is there. For us to get to the next level, we need to bring in a few extra bits of quality. We’ll look at it in the summer.”

Some of these new names could range from Marco Verratti of Paris Saint-Germain to Ashley Williams of Swansea City or Micah Richards from Manchester City.

Aside from the player speculation, there have been rumors that  Rodgers could be replaced by Chelsea coach, Rafa Benitez. But the Liverpool commander has made sure to set things straight this week. According to the Guardian, he said,

“The opportunity was there last summer if the owners wanted to go down that route. Rafa was unemployed but they wanted to grow the club in a different way. The board, myself and the players have all become one. We have built the club to have success in the future. This is a truly remarkable club that many managers would want to manage at, including Rafa Benítez.”

Luis Suarez is also said to be on his way out of the club, both for his impressive season in statistics and the controversy that he has sparked in his three seasons on Merseyside. However, Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre talked to the Sports Illustrated this week, and said,

“To play at the highest level in the Premier League and European soccer, you need players like Luis and Steven Gerrard on your team. So the last thing in our mind is selling Luis Suárez. He’s not for sale. It’s not something we’re interested in.”

Nevertheless, it is easier said than done when the side are out of the exposure that European tournaments provide for the upcoming season.
