Everton Transfers: Roberto Martinez Chasing Wigan Stars

With Roberto Martinez now firmly in the Goodison Park hotseat, reports have already started to surface that he is expected to go after several of his key former players still at Wigan Athletic.

With the Latics having failed to avoid the drop, the club will need to decrease their payroll and the easiest way to do that is to unfortunately clear out many of their high earners and top potential over the summer.

The Toffees appear keen on two of Martinez’s former players and potentially a third. Both Callum McManaman and James McCarthy are expected to move to Goodison in the coming weeks.

However, there is also reports that striker Arouna Kone could also be taken to Merseyside according to Metro.

With Martinez having been linked with a move to manager Liverpool last season and that appointment having fallen through due to the Reds deciding to choose Brendan Rodgers, you can expect the Merseyside Derby to have some renewed life as two of the English Premier Leagues up and coming young managers will be squaring off for what looks like the foreseeable future.
