Emerging Talents: Diego Fagundez of The New England Revolution
Name: | Diego Fagundez |
Date of Birth: | February 14, 1995 |
Height: | 173cm |
Nationality: | Uruguayan |
Club: | New England Revolution |
Position: | Striker |
Born in Uruguay, Diego Fagundez moved to the United States at the age of five and has since been playing football in and around the Greater Boston area. The youngster had been called into several US Youth National Team camps during his early teens but has most recently chosen to represent Uruguay and has featured for their U20′s twice competitively.
Fagundez signed professional terms with the New England Revolution in 2010 and became their first homegrown player to make the jump from the academy to the first team. He made his full debut against DC United in the Lamar Hunt Open Cup in April of 2011 and has featured 30 times in MLS since. The young striker has scored a total of five goals for New England in Major League Soccer.
The Uruguayan brings flair, speed, and the ability to score goals to his side. Though he isn’t the biggest striker in the world, his intelligence and technical ability both make up for his size. He’s confident and composed in front of goal and fearless when on the pitch. His movement off the ball has given MLS defenders headaches since he made his debut, and he continues to impress whenever he sets foot on the pitch. He’ll look to establish himself as a regular in the Revolution’s side this season and possibly earn himself a move to a bigger league and club abroad within the next couple of years. His involvement with Uruguay’s U20 side will also help grow his name around the world.
