Chelsea have been in talks with Bayer Leverkusen officials over the possible transfer of Andre Schurrle for a few weeks now. However, the talks have not progressed in recent weeks as Chelsea would have wanted. The German club have slapped a £25 million pricetag on the player, which has forced the Chelsea into offering one of their star young players as part of the deal. Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is widely expected to be used as a makeweight player in the deal. According to the Mirror, the talks have hit a snag in recent weeks as De Bruyne is yet to make a decision on his future.

Signed for around £7 million from Belgian club Racing Genk, De Bruyne has not made his debut for Chelsea. He was sent out on loan immediately after arriving from the Belgian club last summer. However, he has impressed hugely in his loan spell at Werder Bremen and it has attracted the attention of Borussia Dortmund amongst many other clubs.

Dortmund recently learnt that star midfielder Mario Gotze will be leaving the club in the summer for Bayern Munich. They are eyeing a deal for De Bruyne, as they see him as someone who can replace Gotze. The Champions League semi-finalists are expected to make an offer of around £15 million for the player, which will be enough to convince Chelsea to part ways with him permanently.

It was initially thought that De Bruyne would be sent to Bayer Leverkusen on a loan deal, but Schurrle’s valuations mean that he is likely to be sold permanently. Either way, Chelsea and Leverkusen are waiting for the nod from the 21-year-old. He has been one of the star players for the Werder Bremen team this season by making 31 appearances. He has scored six goals and assisted a further ten.
