Arsenal News: Gunners Open Talks With Barcelona Man

>

barcaBarcelona were left shocked after the announcement from Victor Valdes, as he goes in search of a new challenge, that he will not be signing a new contract with the club. The 31-year-old Spanish international has been a first-team regular at the Camp Nou since the 2003-04 season. He may be an understudy to Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas at the international level, but this former Barcelona youth team product is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. According to the Express, Arsenal have opened negotiations with the player’s agent with a view of completing the deal in the summer.

Arsenal believe that they will be able to secure the signature of Valdes for around £4.5 million, but Barcelona value him close to £10 million. Despite this, Arsenal are thought to have started negotiations as the contract situation of the player puts them in an advantageous position. Barcelona are aware that they could lose the player for nothing after just one season. Hence, the club could be persuaded into selling Valdes in the upcoming transfer window itself.

After seeing the inconsistent performances from Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczesny, Wenger has made the signing of a goalkeeper as a top priority. Valdes will also provide huge experience to the team given his status as a winner of Champions League and World Cup medals in the past. He has been susceptible to the odd mistakes, but he is likely to be a significant upgrade over Szczesny.

Barcelona have not dropped Valdes despite the player’s intentions to leave the club at the end of his current contract. He has made 39 appearances in all competitions for the club. However, Barcelona have conceded 33 goals in 32 league matches, which is a record that is unlikely to inspire confidence in the 31-year-old.

Erm….who exactly regards Valdes as one of the best keepers in the world? Nobody I know does. Every blog I go onto doesn’t think so, anybody with eyes doesn’t think so. Lots of keepers are better than Valdes and are available too.

Valdes being in the best team in the world doesn’t turn him into one of the best keepers in the world pliz do us a favour not to make that horrible mistake Mr. Wenger , we know very well when it comes to cheap players and free agents u r the first one to come out for them …examples like Chamkhas , squillach and Joruoh. thr so many good and young keeper in the EPL.

While he may not be one of the best keepers in the world – the one thing that could really benefit Arsenal is that fact that he’s a winner. We have a serious lack of winners in this squad. A 5mn bi dfor Valdez certainely wouldn’t hurt us.
