AC Milan Transfer News: Newcastle United’s Tim Krul Among List of Summer Targets

>

According to the Mail Online, AC Milan have reportedly increased interest in Newcastle United’s goalkeeper Tim Krul.  The Rossoneri are currently creating a bid around £10 million to secure the Dutchman’s services this summer; however, Alan Pardew may be reluctant in letting his goalkeeper leave after Demba Ba moved onto Chelsea during the January transfer window.

The Dutchman is currently under contract with Newcastle until the 2017 Premier League season, but for the right price, Newcastle may be willing to offload another key player to their starting XI.  Interest in the 25-year-old keeper has not diminished either after the Newcastle man recently suffered a season-ending shoulder injury against Sunderland.  Pardew indicated (via ESPN FC) “Tim has dislocated his shoulder and is definitely out for the season.”

The injury comes as a huge blow for Newcastle as the side teeter above the relegation zone.  With only five matches left in their season, Pardew’s side sit in 13th place in the Premier League (10-6-17) on 36 points which is only five above Wigan Athletic who currently sit in 18th good for the final relegation spot.

After starting all 38 Premier League matches in 2011/12 and now 24 this term, Krul has quickly made a name for himself both at the club level and the international scene.  Thus, the high interest from AC Milan comes to no surprise as he would likely feature ahead of current goalkeeper, Christian Abbiati.

Although the Rossoneri have indicated Krul as their number one target, other avenues remain open - one being QPR man, Julio Cesar.  The Brazilian has been playing exceptionally well for a struggling and relegation ridden Queens Park Rangers.  The Mirror indicated that as QPR look fairly certain to exit the top flight of English football, Cesar would likely move on from Loftus Road sparking Milan’s interest.

The backdrop to securing Cesar over Krul is the age different.  Both keepers have been on-point in recent seasons for their respective clubs but as the Brazilian is eight years older than the Dutchman, longevity could play a key factor in which name ends up in net for the surging Rossoneri.

Will Cesar or Krul be the starting goalkeeper for AC Milan next season? Or will Abbiati continue at the helm after another successful season in Serie A?  Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
