AS Monaco Pursue Veterans John Terry and Patrice Evra

We don’t see John Terry’s name in the transfer rumors column very often. Chelsea’s captain, legend and leader has always been thought of as a player who will finish his career in the team of his heart. There are few like him left.

But here it is. The Guardian reports that “José Mourinho will pack off his old pal towards AS Monaco.” And if that rumor is difficult to comprehend, Manchester United’s Patrice Evra is said to be joining Terry there.

Imagining John Terry with a jersey that has an emblem of a team other than Chelsea is getting more and more real. This is not the first time rumors are going around that he may be transferred. Last year, media outlets had the news about Terry moving to Valencia wrong. John Terry and Chelsea’s old/new boss José Mourinho are known to have an excellent relationship. They respect each other immensely and never lost touch after The Special One’s scandalous sacking by club owner Roman Abramovich.

However, six years later, Terry is a different player and Mourinho is seemingly not  as sentimental as many thought he might be. Terry is not likely to start games too often, with the central defender  losing his place to David Luiz and Gary Cahill.

From a business point of view, selling Terry now seems to be the best way to go. Chlesea’s favorite, who is now 32 years old, is entering the last year of his contract. Therefore, if Chelsea chooses to wait until next transfer window, they may lose out on making a bit of money on a man that has served the club for so long. AS Monaco are enjoying a spending spree of sorts at the moment as seen by their recent activity in the transfer window.

With just a year left on his deal and his starting role jeopardized, John Terry’s move could become more and more realistic as the transfer window ticks on.
