Radamel Falcao and the Biggest Chelsea Transfer Rumors of October

>

As October comes to a close the January transfer window looms for clubs all over the globe in two month’s time. A period that is full of excitement and fixture mayhem at the turn of the new year will also usher in yet another period of press thumping and wind-up merchants galore looking for the latest news on any and every transfer rumor to be even thought up.

Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in all of England and the defending European champions are growing as a global brand every season. This past summer the club went on a major spending spree to help secure the long term future of the club as perennial English Premier League and UEFA Champions League title contenders.

However, the work of a deep pocket owner and a front office with massive expectations is never over. January may not always be a time when club’s spend big, but Chelsea have made winter signings a specialty in recent seasons. Both Fernando Torres and David Luiz were winter signings two years ago, and it is likely that some more big names could join this winter.

The Blues have been linked to a number of big names for the coming transfer starting most notably with Radamel Falcao of Atletico Madrid. The talented Colombian striker has brought the Spanish capital’s second club to the summit of La Liga. The Mattress Men currently sit joint top with Barcelona largely in part to the major goal scoring exploits of the clinical South American.

Chelsea would much enjoy having a player like that to pair up with Fernando Torres, who despite continuing to regain his form still struggles at times and the addition of Falcao could potentially make an unstoppable force at the front line of the Blues attack.

Another La Liga player rumored to be on the wish list of manager Roberto Di Matteo and owner Roman Abramovich is Barcelona defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets. The Spanish international continues to be the backbone of the Blaugrana offense from the deep lying midfield role. John Obi Mikel has been better this season, but he is still likely to eventually be faced with a much tougher battle for a first team place.

The other major links to the club have been Everton’s Belgian sensation, Marouane Fellaini and Celtic rising star Victor Wanyama. Each offer a boost to the midfield that is still in the stages of building to prepare for the exit of Frank Lampard in the coming years.

Rumors have also seen Athletic Bilbao’s Fernando Llorente Torres and Benfica forward Nelson Oliviera mentioned in passing with Chelsea, but not as heavily as those discussed above.

Additionally to the rumors of players coming in are the growing rumors of major stars of the past being sent on their way to the next phase of their career.

Ashley Cole has been a fantastic defensive player throughout his time at Stamford Bridge and has been the benchmark of what a left back in England is graded against for years. However, off the pitch Cole has been problem after problem for the club and the English Football Association lately and a change of scenery to Real Madrid or Paris Saint Germain might truly be a good thing.

Flourent Malouda continues to be linked and unlinked with a move to South America, and Frank Lampard was again thought to be a target for Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy based on his friendship with Galaxy star David Beckham.
