Mexico’s Giovanni dos Santos Wants to Say in Spain

Mexican midfielder Giovanni dos Santos has revealed his desire to stay in Spain next season.

Speaking to reporters before his national team’s fixture against Costa Rica, dos Santos said, “Of course I want to stay in Spain.” (quotes via goal)

Speculation regarding his future at his club began following Mallorca’s relegation last season. And while he might even stay at the club and help them push for promotion next season, interest from other clubs has been growing.

Spanish teams Valencia, Espanyol and Villareal are all rumored to be linked with a possible bid for the 24-year-old. However the attacking midfielder remains focused on Mexico’s upcoming games.

“What’s going to happen with my future? I don’t think even I know. But it isn’t the time to talk about it, I’m with the national team and I just want to concentrate on the qualifier and the Confederations Cup and the rest we’ll see.”

Mexico host Costa Rica on Tuesday before travelling to Brazil for their opening Confederations Cup game against Italy.

Interest in dos Santos this transfer window is not unwarranted. He enjoyed the most prolific season of his career despite his club’s downfall on the last day of the season. He featured double the times of any previous season, with 32 appearances and six goals.

Dos Santos was never able to gain a regular starting position at Tottenham, going on loan for three of his four seasons with the club. However since leaving North London, he has thrived as Mallorca’s number 9.

While seeking a move out of Mallorca might be the best for Santo’s future. He would have to find a club that can guarantee him a starting position. At 24, he needs playing time in order to keep his place within Mexico’s national team.
