Sir Alex Ferguson has made it quite clear that Manchester United will not be signing any additional names this January, but according to reports, he may just have a trick or two up his sleeve.  Although Ferguson may be telling the truth, he does seem to have a heightened interest in Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he wishes to find back in a Red Devils uniform.

Manchester United are reported as having plenty of interest in Sven Bender, of Borussia Dortmund.  United value the midfielder at £15 million, who would fit well in the established United midfield.  Bender would work excellently alongside Michael Carrick whom is ever reliable and one of the best possession based players that the Premier League has to offer.

This season, Michael Carrick has taken his fair share of criticisms, has proven to Fergie he is extremely reliable week in and week out, while his distribution has also been spot on.  As the England international enjoys traveling into the attacking third, Bender would take on the role of defensive enforcer in the midfield, to boast his hard-nose tackling as well as aid in strengthening Manchester United’s defensive core.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Real Madrid may just come back to haunt Manchester United as both giants collide in the Champions League Round of 16 tie.  According to The Daily Mirror, reports indicate that Ronaldo may find his way back to his old stomping grounds as early as this summer.  In this bid for Ronaldo of around £60 million, Sir Alex would likely have to unload a number of players in exchange in the Portuguese midfielders services.

It seems as if Sir Alex is quite content with his current squad makeup, and rather than making any drastic squad changes, he looks to see defensive improvement along with clinical finishing in front of net.  Ferguson always has a method to his madness, and continued focus on summer signings may prove to be even more powerful for United, than making a move this January.
