Liverpool Transfer Rumors: 4 Players Linked to Anfield Moves in January

Liverpool have remained fairly quiet in terms of transfer rumors since their signing of Daniel Sturridge last week. Brendan Rodgers has stated that the Anfield faithful should not expect any more than one new player in the window, although every comment this month from a manager must be taken with tongue-in-cheek. Here are a few possible transfer targets that may be the next to follow Sturridge to Liverpool this month.

Tom Ince (Blackpool)

Tom Ince may be finally on his way to Liverpool as the Reds and Blackpool are close to agreeing on a 6m transfer, according to the Daily Mail. The England-U21 winger was apparently subject to a £4.75 million bid by the Reds, but his current club were said to be holding out for closer to £7 million. Ince has been linked with the Reds for about a month now, and it is no secret that Rodgers has inquired about the former Liverpool youngster.

The 20-year-old has continued his good run of form this season, having scored 13 goals in 24 games. Even with the signing of Daniel Sturridge, Rogers may be looking for additional attacking depth and the winger may be the man to provide just that. It appears that the Anfield side will have to open up the checkbook a little more to get a deal done during the January window, but I fully expect to see Ince in red by the end of the month.

Davide Astori (Cagliari)

Liverpool have apparently made a bid for Italian defender Davide Astori, but are set to miss out to Southampton, according to goal.com. The Reds’ bid did not match that of Southampton, thought to be around £9.5 million. However, the fat lady has not yet sung, and anything can happen in January, so don’t count Liverpool out of this one.

Cagliari are thought to be looking for more than £9 million, and Rodgers may feel that the defender is worth the larger fee, thought to be around £12 million. The former Milan man has impressed over the last 18 months, and was linked with Juventus in the summer. Rodgers seems keen to add a defender this month, and the injury to Jose Enrique only adds to his need for defensive depth. The Anfield side’s back line has not looked top-4 quality this season, but Astori may be a man that could bring some added experience and pressure to the Liverpool defense.

Kevin Gameiro (PSG)

Brendan Rodgers may not be done adding to his attack this January, as his Anfield side have been linked to a loan deal for the Paris St-Germain striker. Gameiro has fallen down the pecking order at the French club since the addition of the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and the 25-year-old may be looking for a new employer this month. The Frenchman would be a solid pickup for Rodgers and bring some depth and versatility to the Reds’ attack, as he can play in any of the three forward line positions.

Kevin Grosskreutz (Borussia Dortmund)

The Newshound are reporting that Liverpool are back in for the German winger, as contract talks have stalled between Dortmund and the 24-year-old. Brendan Rodgers is said to be interested in bringing in some attacking reinforcements, and Grosskreutz would provide just that. The winger’s manager, Jurgen Klopp, is not thought to be interested in selling the German international, but Liverpool may be able to sweeten the pot a bit. If Liverpool could somehow arrange for Nuri Sahin to head back to Dortmund, a deal that has been rumored of late, the German side might be open to letting go of another one of their promising youngsters.
