Fernandinho arrives in Manchester for Medical

Manchester City look set to land their first deal of the summer as Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fernandinho arrives in Manchester for a medical.

The Brazilian midfielder was seen entering the Bridgewater Hospital in Manchester on Wednesday morning. He is believed to undergo a medical there before touring the clubs training grounds. The fee is believed to be in the region of 22 million pounds with his weekly wages a whooping 100,000 a week.

Manchester City have been interested in the 28-year-old for quite some time but the Ukrainian side have wanted an offer close to the release clause in his contract, which is set at 42.5 million pounds.

Fernandinho has feared that this high valuation could threaten his potential move to city.

“The day I signed, the club’s director guaranteed me that was normal with his players, and that in a transfer, we could negotiate and reach an agreement on the price. I trusted them, and didn’t think about the consequences it would bring me in the future. My dream is being threatened because of the high valuation.” (quotes via dailymail)

Fernandinho has taken to twitter in the past few months to try to convince Shakhtar of his desires to play for City. He even posted an article from bleacherreport.com titled – Manchester City Transfers: Why Fernandinho Would Be a Smart Addition.

While the Ukrainian club has been eager to keep hold of their ace midfielder, Fernandinho believes that his Brazilian teammates think that a move would be best for his future.

“They all wish me to move on. They know that the Premier League is a great championship and that Manchester City is a great club, therefore they all wish me to play there. I believe my chances of making the World Cup squad will improve if I join City. My exposure would be better, because Brazil is biased towards the Ukrainian league. What we do here is not recognized in my country.”

Fernandinho only holds five caps for Brazil. However his performances for Shakhtar over his eight seasons at the club have been consistently impressive. He has become a strong central figure in a side that boasts an array of highly skilled players.

For a Brazilian, Fernandinho isn’t shy to put a tackle in, but it is his movement and ability to turn defense into attack that are his natural skills. In 280 appearances for the club he has netted 52 goals.

Fernandinho looks set to join Jesus Navas as City’s first two signings of the summer. It’s clear that the Citizens are looking to bolster their midfield that lacked both serious width and depth last season.
