David Villa and Liverpool’s Biggest Transfer Rumors of October
Liverpool have proven two things since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers. One is that they have the ability to win deep within them, however they lack support of another true striker to make sure that happens more often.
Secondly that the focus of the club going forward is rooted in the young talent already in place at Anfield, and the transfer policy will be dictated towards the goal of adding players under the age of 28 to solve any issues.
The month of October still saw several elder statesmen linked with a move to the club starting with Barcelona’s David Villa, but the Spanish international could be one signing that would see the club willing to break their rule for.
Villa has been brought up embracing his nation’s style of possession based, pass and move play. The 4-3-3 style of Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers would be accent well by the veteran striker.
A more straight forward link to an at times prolific goal scorer has come up recently with the club’s links to Schalke 04 attacker Klass-Jan Huntelaar. The former Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan man was sensational in the Bundesliga last season, and despite a slow start to form this season is still believed hugely capable.
Links to young London club players in Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge and Arsenal’s Theo Walcott seem the most likely targets for the club as they would fill the void in attack as both can play as wingers or central strikers which are keys to Rodgers’ system and style.
On top of that they are both in their early 20’s and prime age range targets for the club without being at the inflated price that could be at when they are 27 to 32 years of age.
The other pressing matter aside from whom to bring into the club is how to deal with those that looks as if their time has come and gone. Andy Carroll may be on loan at West Ham United, but he is more than likely set to make a permanent exit either this winter.
Stewart Downing is another player that could likely be used as a makeweight in a deal or sold all together as the once brilliant Middlesbrough and Aston Villa winger has never truly produced the goods at Liverpool.
