Chelsea’s Transfer Merry-Go-Round Includes Andre Schurrle and Kevin De Bruyne

Andre Schurrle looks set to join Chelsea after Bayer Leverkusen’s general manager Wolfgang Holzhäuser announced on Thursday that an agreement has been reached. 22 year-old Schurrle is thought to be in the middle of a transfer worth £20m. The striker is currently in the United States with Germany but is expected to be flying back to London immediately after the tour to sign for the Europa League champions.

“We have reached an agreement with Chelsea,” Holzhäuser told the Rheinische Post newspaper.

“They are going to buy André Schürrle for a specific fee and, in return, they will loan De Bruyne to us for a year for free.

“I expect Chelsea to stand by what has been agreed.” (via the Guardian)

So begins the transfer merry-go-round with Chelsea, Leverkusen, Kevin De Bruyne, and Andre Schurrle. Though Leverkusen and Chelsea have agreed terms on Schurrle, the move appears to be pending on a loan move for Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian international who is also in the United States at the moment with his national team, was on loan to Werder Bremen last season, but it looks as if Borussia Dortmund could make things more interesting for the youngster with a reported offer.

Chelsea signed De Bruyne last season but he is yet to feature for the Blues and could be interested in sticking around to see what incoming manager Jose Mourinho has in mind for him. Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, have already confirmed the departure of Mario Goetze and could be losing Robert Lewandowski to German rivals Bayern Munich in the near future as well. De Bruyne would help Dortmund recover the loss of Goetze to an extent, but the Champions League finalists will still need to buy if they expect to compete at the level they did this year.
