Chelsea has been linked with interest in the services of Benfica striker Oscar Cardozo according to TalkSport. The talented front man has been a force to be reckoned with for the Portuguese giants and is attracting large interest from around the European club scene.

However, it appears that Benfica are attempting to make sure that if there is an offer to come in for the player, that they have ample protection money built into his new contract to allow them plenty of negotiating room.

It is rumored that his new buyout clause will be worth over €40 million. It seems that the massive release clause that Benfica’s rivals FC Porto had installed in the contract of Hulk, which allowed them to achieve a major fee from Russian side Zenit Saint Petersburg, could become the benchmark for star players in the future of their league.

If Chelsea were before hoping to sign the player in the cheap, they for sure will have a fight on their hands now to land Cardozo for a reasonable amount of money. The potential move of Cardozo would likely have been the end of Daniel Sturridge’s career at Stamford Bridge, but looks like the wantaway English forward may have to wait until another opportunity arises for him to have a chance to get away in January.
