AC Milan Striker Mario Balotelli Talks About Roberto Mancini Getting the Sack

Former Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli has said that he was not surprised to hear that his former club had sacked manager Roberto Mancini. The Italian had overseen at disappointing season at the Etihad Stadium at both domestic and European levels. During his three years at the club, he managed to win the Premier League and the FA Cup.

However, City were knocked out in the group stages of the Champions League in successive season. Even though they had a tough draw, Mancini was expected to take his side into the knockout stages given the money he has spent during his time.

Balotelli was one of the high-profile signings he made during his three years. Often referred to as the best young talent in the world, Balotelli’s time at City saw several highs and lows. It is not a secret that he enjoyed a special relationship with Mancini, which stretched back to their days at Inter Milan.

Even though both have been pictured clashing on several occasions, Mancini always remained supportive of Balotelli. Many have said that the failure to deal with the Balotelli issue was one of the reasons that cost his job, but the Italian striker has backed Mancini by saying that he is one of the best managers in the world.

“I am not really surprised but when I was with him he was a great manager and we had one of the best teams I have played with, the best players,” said Balotelli to the Daily Mail.

Mancini had the opportunity to put behind a disappointing league campaign by winning the second FA Cup title in three years, but they were defeated by Wigan. As a result, City finish the season empty handed for the first time in three years.

City said in a statement after Mancini’s sacking that the club had failed in all their objectives except finishing in the top four.

Malaga manager Manuel Pellegrini is expected to be the replacement for Mancini.
